    Hernandez Hideaway

Just off Del Dios Highway, between Rancho Santa Fe and Escondido lies Hernandez Hideaway. Known best for their margartitas, tamales and carnitas, this funky, off-beat Mexican joint has been a locals favorite since 1972. The food is good, simple and honest. The chips and salsa- maybe not homemade- are very good nonetheless. Margaritas will keep you coming back- "on the rocks" is reommended. Lobster and shrimp burritos come in generous portions, and are flavorful. Come on Sunday's for brunch between 10am and 2pm- Hernandez will serve up Huevos Rancheros and other egg dishes. Overall, Hernandez Hideaway is a fun experience and a hearty meal.
